Nowadays, one in three Japanese dies of cancer. It is one of the biggest threats to human life. A cancer drug, if developed, would be a treasure for mankind. However, the greater the discovery, the greater would be the quarrel over it no matter what it takes. It would also bring about population increase and an aging society, as well as other issues of housing, health care and pensions. Politics would be thrown into such chaos, it may even result in an outbreak of war. Eradication of cancer should be an ardent wish for human beings, however, would it really be welcomed if such a miracle drug was discovered? An internist at a university hospital discovers a wonder drug for cancer after 18 years of research. Nobody takes him seriously at first, but his life is turned upside down as soon as the discovery is accepted as real. The dean of the medical school and other doctors attempt to claim credit, while pharmaceutical companies sense profit-making opportunities and move in. Although he genuinely wants to eradicate cancer, his wonder drug raises a fierce storm which engulfs him as well.

Single Drama

The first dramatization for TV of Seicho Matsumoto's timeless masterpiece, which was claimed impossible to adapt to screen! An exquisite and dignified work where the early 1960s are faithfully recreated and played by a star-studded cast led by Beat Takeshi. The original work was a pioneer of a mystery based on train timetables, which has been turned into a true human drama beyond the category of a mystery. Jutaro Torikai (Beat Takeshi), a detective, and his young partner Mihara (Katsunori Takahashi) hold firm in their belief and discover the unaccounted four minutes which was the only time when platform 15 could be seen from platform 13. The pair painstakingly investigate the riddle of the alibi and find the killer.
